Katie Andrews Potter

Hello, and thanks for stopping by my blog! I'm Katie, but in the online world I go by Katie Andrews Potter. I grew up in the suburbs in Carmel, Indiana, but now I live on the Near Eastside of Indianapolis in an intentional Christian community. I am married, and I homeschool our two children, Eliana and Micah.

I began my journey into genealogy when I was only 16, and haven't stopped researching since. I found out I am a 9th generation Hoosier on both sides - and so is my husband - so Indiana genealogy and history are of particular interest to me. In fact, it was my research on our Indiana ancestors that inspired my books. The first two books of The Wayfaring Sisters series are available now - Going over Home and Going over Jordan. They are young adult historical fiction novels set in present and pioneer Indiana (a little time travel goin' on there), but people of all ages have read and enjoyed them. I also have some other books in the works, including Wayfaring, the third of the series. I am currently working on creating a children's picture book with my sister, based on the memoir of our great-great-great grandmother, who grew up in pioneer Indiana. I have also begun the blog and website, Storybook Ancestor, dedicated to encouraging children to explore their family history and then write the stories they find there. You can find it here: (www.storybookancestor.org)

I hold a BS in Elementary Education from IUPUI. I have done graduate work in History and am currently pursuing a Certificate in Genealogical Studies. I have worked in Special Education and ABA Therapy, but am now devoting all my time to my family and writing. I also blog about genealogy and history books for kids at The In-Depth Genealogist.`Check it out here: (www.theindepthgenealogist.com)
