Here's a quick revise:
We started learning about Indiana history in fourth grade. We learned all about the Native Americans, and the pioneers, and everything. Libby brought in a bunch of old photos and even an old family quilt to share with the rest of our class about her pioneer ancestors. Rachel brought her grandma to school and she told the whole class about what Indianapolis used to be like when she was a little girl. And I found myself wishing I had grandparents to bring in, too. Something about having a grandma to lean on, to hug like my friend’s grandmas who seemed so huggable, something about that just made me green with envy. I wished I had that.
This grandparent thing must have made a big idea pop into my teacher’s head, because next thing you know she’s havin’ us make family history books, complete with a family tree, so we could all learn about our family’s ties to Indiana history and why our family came here. And I panicked.Katie Andrews Potter https://www.blogger.com/profile/04423760792825405433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2687168648996166994.post-11987513426130425052012-03-15T14:12:40.202-04:002012-03-15T14:12:40.202-04:00I think we have some time travelers on our hands! ...I think we have some time travelers on our hands! First of all I'm really enjoying reading this. Tough the plot is still much of a mystery to me, the concept that I'm getting is rich and I imagine would be very interesting to YA readers.
Love the reference to the boxcar children. I wish for my kids sake that those books would make a comeback.
I think a bit of maddie's voice in chapter three got a little lost. It seemed more adult as she talked about the school project. Something about her saying that she ached for her grandparents seemed heavy. Maybe if you flesh out a little more of her sadness about what she could be missing out on and her jealousy of her friends grandparent relationships it would fit a little more.
I think it's great overall and can't wait to read more, I want to know what's up with these people Haha. Hopefully this helped :)Kate Rothhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01076860629081982027noreply@blogger.com
